About the Image Compressor

Large photos slow down websites, bounce off email size limits and get rejected by upload forms. This compressor re-encodes your images with smarter settings and optional resizing, typically cutting the file size by 50 to 90 percent while looking the same to the eye.

PNG images can be compressed with colour quantisation (the same technique as TinyPNG) for 60-80% smaller files that keep their transparency. JPG and WebP compression uses a quality slider so you choose the balance between size and detail.

How to compress images

  1. Add your images.
  2. Pick a quality level and output format, and optionally a maximum width.
  3. Compare the before and after sizes and download.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 100KB or 200KB?

Choose WebP or JPG output, set a maximum width (for example 1600 px) and lower the quality until the size shown under the result is below your target. Most photos reach 100-200 KB at quality 60-75 at 1600 px wide.

Which format gives the smallest file?

WebP is usually 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality. For graphics and screenshots, PNG with colour reduction is often smallest.

Why did my file get bigger?

Images that were already heavily compressed can grow when re-encoded at a higher quality. Lower the quality or keep the original.

Is the Image Compressor free?

Yes. The Image Compressor is completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, no daily limits and no premium tier.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. FileStripe processes your files locally in your web browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, so the Image Compressor is safe for private photos and confidential documents and even works offline once the page has loaded.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. The Image Compressor works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Samsung Internet on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone you can pick files from your photo library or files app and share the result straight to another app.
