Download Time Calculator

Find out how long a file, game or update will take to download at your internet speed.

Free to use · No account needed · Files are processed on your device and never uploaded

Example: Download time 2 min 40 s. Change the values above to calculate your own.

About the Download Time Calculator

Enter the size of the file and your connection speed to see how long the download should take. The result also shows a more realistic estimate at 80% of your advertised speed, because Wi-Fi, network overhead and busy servers rarely let you reach the full figure.

Remember the units: internet providers sell speeds in megabits per second (Mbps), while files are measured in megabytes (MB). There are 8 bits in a byte, so a 100 Mbps line downloads at most about 12.5 MB per second.

How to use the Download Time Calculator

  1. Enter your numbers (or keep the example).
  2. The result updates instantly as you type.
  3. Copy the result, or copy the link: it keeps your numbers so you can share them.

How it's calculated

Time (seconds) = file size in bits ÷ speed in bits per second. A 2 GB file is 2 × 8,000,000,000 = 16,000,000,000 bits; at 100 Mbps (100,000,000 bits per second) it takes 160 seconds, or 2 minutes 40 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my download slower than the calculator says?

Real downloads lose speed to Wi-Fi interference, other devices on your network, server limits and protocol overhead. Expect 60-90% of your plan's speed in practice.

How long does a 50 GB game take to download?

About 67 minutes at 100 Mbps, 13 minutes at 500 Mbps and 7 minutes on a 1 Gbps connection, before real-world slowdowns.

Is the Download Time Calculator free?

Yes, the Download Time Calculator is free with no sign-up, no limits and no ads covering the result.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
