How to Convert HEIC Photos to JPG on Any Device
iPhone photos in HEIC format won't open? Here's how to convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone, Windows, Mac and Android, free and without uploading your photos.
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in the HEIC format by default. It saves storage, but Windows, many Android phones and lots of websites can't open HEIC files. Here is how to convert them on any device.
The fastest way (any device)
- Open the HEIC to JPG converter in your browser.
- Select your HEIC photos (as many as you like).
- Download the JPGs one by one or as a ZIP.
The conversion runs on your device, so your photos stay private, and the resulting JPGs contain no location data.
On iPhone
To make future photos JPG: Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible. To convert existing photos, open the converter page in Safari, tap the upload box and choose Photo Library. Alternatively copy a photo from the Photos app and paste it into the Files app, which saves it as JPG.
On Windows
Windows can only show HEIC images with the HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store. Without them, use the browser converter above: it works in Chrome and Edge with no install.
On Mac
Open the photo in Preview, choose File > Export and pick JPEG. For many photos at once, select them all in Preview first, or use the browser converter for batch conversion with a ZIP download.
On Android
Recent Android versions can display HEIC, but many apps cannot upload it. Open the converter in Chrome, pick the files and share the JPGs directly to the app you need.
HEIC to JPG: will I lose quality?
JPG is less efficient than HEIC, so files get somewhat larger, but at the default quality of 92 there is no visible difference.
